How to Build a Routine That Actually Works

How to Build a Routine That Actually Works

September feels like the beginning of a new year, but one month isn’t enough to change your life.

Every year, it’s the same story.

Summer ends and we find ourselves in September with new goals and new routines we want to bring into our lives.

And for a few days, it even feels easy: we’re motivated, organized, ready to become the most disciplined version of ourselves.

Then, inevitably, reality kicks in: you miss one day, then another.

And what was supposed to become your new routine ends up being yet another resolution left unfinished.

But maybe the problem isn’t that you’re not consistent enough.

Maybe you’re simply trying to build habits the wrong way.

The good news? You don’t need more motivation.

You need a system that makes it easier to keep going.

01. Set simple goals

One of the most common mistakes we make when starting a new routine is trying to change everything at once.

  • Go to the gym five times a week.

  • Meditate every morning.

  • Get eight hours of sleep.

  • Eat perfectly.

  • No phone before bed.

It sounds like a great plan…. until Tuesday comes around.

Instead, start with one thing. And make it so simple that it can’t become a problem.

You don’t need to build a completely new life in one week.

You just need to create the first action you can repeat.

02. Connect new habits to old ones

New habits become easier when they don’t have to find a completely new place in your day.

Connect the new action to something you already do.

  • Your morning coffee.

  • Your evening skincare routine.

  • The moment you pack your bag for the next day.

When something becomes part of a sequence you already know, it requires less mental energy.

Don’t create another moment. Create a connection.

03. Make consistency inevitable

A good habit shouldn’t depend on willpower.

If every time you have to remember what to do, when to do it, where to find what you need or when to reorder it, you’re adding small obstacles to your routine.

And it’s precisely these small obstacles that, over time, make habits fall apart.

So ask yourself:

How can I make my new habit impossible to ignore?

  • Prepare what you need in advance.

  • Keep things within reach.

  • Automate what you can.

Even not having to remember to reorder something you use every day can become part of the system.

That’s one of the reasons we created AVÀSH Subscriptions: to make it easier to stick to a routine you’ve already chosen.

You can choose your product or build your own AVÀSH Ritual, and decide which rhythm works for you:

Your routine should adapt to your life, not the other way around.

04. Give yourself good reasons to keep going

Not every habit comes with an immediate reward.

Often, the reason we do them — to feel better or see a result — comes much later.

That’s why it’s important to make the journey enjoyable too.

  • A playlist you love.

  • A moment that’s just for you.

Something that turns something you “have to do” into something you want to repeat.

And why not add a little surprise?

With an AVÀSH Ritual subscription, your consistency becomes part of our Gifting Journey:

6 MONTHS. 6 GIFTS.

A new gift along your journey, designed to make your routine a little easier and a little more fun.

05. Don’t aim for perfection. Aim for repeatability.

This might be the most important part.

A routine doesn’t fail because you skipped one day.

It fails when you think that, after missing one day, you might as well start all over again.

Perfection creates pressure. Consistency creates results.

If a routine no longer works for you, change it.

The goal isn’t to always follow the routine. It’s to always find a way back to it.

A New Way to Approach September

You don’t need to become a completely new person this September.

You need to build a routine simple enough to still feel like yours in November, in January, during a busy week, or on a difficult day.

Start small.
Make it easy.
Keep going.

Because consistency doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly.
It means building a routine that still works when everything doesn’t go according to plan. ♡
